HOUSTON, June 1, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --

Natural Resource Partners L.P. (NYSE: NRP)today reported the acquisition of a 21-year term overriding royalty interest in frac sand reserves located on approximately 711 acres near Tyler, Texas for a purchase price of $16.5 million, of which $14.4 million was funded at closing. The $14.4 million was funded with cash remaining from NRP's recent senior notes offering. The remaining $2.1 million will be funded upon satisfactory completion of a condition precedent.

The reserves are strategically located near several shale gas basins in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Frac sand is utilized by oil and gas service companies in the fracturing process during the completion of wells.

The agreement is structured like other NRP leases with annual minimums, production royalty based on sales price and a minimum per ton for each ton sold. The reserve life is estimated to be in excess of the 21-year term. The sand reserves are currently being mined, processed, and sold and will immediately generate income for NRP.
